It is true you can go skiing in Australia!!!
After a long couple of days at work I came home to some very excited house mates who had found a deal for the opening weekend in Thredbo. A quick house meeting over tea we had booked our weekend break away with Oz Snow Adventure. The weekend package included transport from Sydney to the mountains and back, dorm room, ski equipment, winter clothes, lift pass, two breakfasts and one dinner. You have the option to add on lessons at a extra cost.
The trip starts outside Central station boarding the bus at 6PM. There is one pit stop on the way for food. The bus arrives at the resort at about 1AM, you get off the bus and go straight into the equipment office where you are fitted for your boots, boards and poles. After the blur of getting the equipment fitted it is straight to bed in the wooden themed dorms as you are up at 6:30AM the next morning.
After filling up on a hot breakfast it was time to board the bus again. It was a 30min bus ride to Thredbo. Once everyone had their equipment it was time to hit the slopes. Only half the mountain was open on the opening weekend which did mean the slopes were very crowded. Once I had tackled the bunny slope I headed for the green slopes. Late afternoon came and I retired off the mountain to try the après skiing. We all met at the Recorderlig Hot Pools party at the Alpine Hotel. It was the perfect end to a day of skiing with open fires, hot tub, hot pool, live music and hot cider. The bus picked us up at 5:30PM and we returned to the resort for dinner and a night in the resorts bar.
It was another early start on the Sunday with the same breakfast and bus routine to get some a few more runs in before returning home. The mountain has cafes all around so you are never far from food and drink. At 4PM we boarded the bus and headed back for Sydney. The bus was very quiet on the way back due to everyone being exhausted from a amazing weekend.
